I have not yet received a reply from my
international colleagues or podcast. Therefore,
I will share information regarding childhood poverty in Japan, from the
website: http://www.childhoodpoverty.org/. After studying this website, I have learned
that although there was a decline in poverty in the 1990’s there is still a high
increase in, low life expectancy, a large number of the population over the age
15 cannot read, and healthcare is poor. This
is because of a family’s economic status.
The insight that I have gained regarding this website; is that China is
struggling to ensure that their children receive a safe and nurturing
childhood, as with other struggling countries in this world. I wonder if child poverty will ever be cured
in one’s lifetime. L
Hello! I was having a tough time following! Was your comment about Japan or China? Sorry for the confusion!

Hi Sandra..
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement with you... I've always wondered the same thing. It's indeed a sad situation.
Hi Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI also had a difficult time following if this was about Japan, China, or maybe both?! Although there was a decrease in poverty in the 1990's, this doesn't make people struggling right. You mentioned that a large number of people over the age of 15 do not know how to read. Why do you think this is? Do you think that living in poverty has a lot to do with that? Do you feel that more educational resources for children should be available in countries such as Japan? What is "China" doing to ensure that their children get a safe and nurturing childhood? Do you feel that more can be done to help these children and families?
Wow! How sad that there is so much poverty in our world today! It just breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info.,
Cortnee :)
I was also confused about whether you were writingabout China or Japan but I read about China and was surprised to learn (I know, I know. I live under a rock) that they have a one chld policy. Despite ones feelings on the "policy" I a sure this cuts down on the poverty level in that country.
